Detroit’s three automakers have relaunched their joint advocacy group in Washington, hiring Debbie Dingell and broadening its focus to promote U.S. auto manufacturing
The American Automotive Policy Council – backed by Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. – will be led by Stephen Collins, who had overseen the Automotive Trade Policy Council. That group had been the automakers’ voice on trade and currency issues in Washington.
Dingell, who stepped down from GM last month, will head a “manufacturing initiative” at the new AAPC “to develop credible and reliable information for policymakers.” She is the wife of U.S. Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn.
The automakers are all members of the National Association of Manufacturers, led by former Republican Michigan Gov. John Engler, and the Alliance of Automobile Manufactuers, whose members include Toyota Motor Co., BMW and Daimler. - Freep
