With Microsoftâs Windows 7 operating system now out in the open, weâre expecting each and every PC, component or peripheral manufacturer to line up with a slew of sexy new products hoping to cash in on the 7-led bandwagon.
Sexy, however, isnât the word weâd most closely associate with NZXTâs latest chassis; the mid-tower Gamma.
Aimed at the âbudget-conscious builder,â this mid-tower monstrosity might not be the easiest on the eye, but itâs certainly wallet-friendly, priced at around $50 (thatâs roughly ÂŁ30 excluding local taxes).
Despite the relatively-low price tag, Gamma is surprisingly well equipped. Itâs not everyday you see a ÂŁ30 chassis offering a full black interior.
Thereâs room for a bottom-mounted PSU, seven expansion slots, and a total of 11 drive bays â four of the 5.25in variety and seven 3.5in.
Measuring 190mm x 449mm x 508mm and weighing 6kgs, the chassis offers support for ATX, mATX or BabyAT motherboards. Thereâs room for plenty of cooling, too, with Gamma providing room for a front-mounted 120mm intake, two 120mm side fans, two top 120mm/140mm exhausts and a 120mm rear exhaust. Sadly, only the latter is included as standard â but what did you expect for $50?
NZXT reckons 10in graphics cards will fit without a problem, and itâs giving enthusiasts some useful tools such as pre-drilled water cooling holes and holes in the motherboard for cable management. Thereâs even the facility for a dual radiator to be attached to the top of the chassis, and the front I/O panel is pretty well equipped â offering audio, USB and eSATA connectivity.
Willing to look past the shall-we-say, unusual design? Or, better still, find yourself falling for Gammaâs jagged front face? Youâll find the chassis in stores later this month. - Hexus
